Aziz Mirza, Director
Aziz has a passion for manipulating data, and a desire to communicate the results of these analyses clearly and simply. A co-founder of The Fees Bureau, Aziz is happiest when he is knee-deep in data, analysing the results, writing the reports and thinking of new ways to visually display quantitative information.
After graduating in Human Geography, Aziz spent four years working for the social services department of Buckinghamshire County Council – where he carried out research into projects ranging from straight forward statistical number-crunching exercises to highly sensitive research into why foster placements had broken down. This was followed by a posting as Research Manager at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), where he managed the transformation of the institute's research role from pure data collection into a more forward-looking “Market Research Unit”.
Since co-founding Mirza & Nacey Research in 1989, Aziz has been instrumental in designing the methodology and questionnaires for hundreds of surveys. The surveys have become larger and more complex, with the European surveys requiring translation into several different languages. Aziz is particularly interested in developing and improving ways to present data simply, with a particular emphasis on the visual display of quantitative data and using infographics.
Aziz is the editor of Construction Futures, the quarterly report on the outlook for construction. He regularly contributes articles to the RIBA Journal. Aziz has been a member of the RIBA Economic Panel and is a mentor at the annual RIBA Guerrilla Tactics event.
