2011 Earnings Survey - Overview

2011 Earnings Survey shows architects’ earnings have fallen by 3 per cent between 2010 and 2011 - on top of the 8 per cent fall last year. This is the first time earnings have fallen for two years in a row.

This year’s Architects’ Earnings Survey shows:

  • a second consecutive year in which average earnings have fallen. This year’s 3 per cent drop comes on top of an 8 per cent decline last year

  • the largest falls are in the public sector

  • salaried architects employed in private practice report no change on the year and there is evidence that larger practices are paying more

  • average earnings have only increased in only one sector - private in-house architects

  • average earnings for architects overall are £40,000
